""Unreal Engine 4"" "The name is Unreal but it has everything real"

After gaining so much hits from the Unreal Engine 3 , the 'Epic Games' released its fourth installation in the series and named it as 'Unreal Engine 4' . Unreal 4 was released in May 2012 and its stable version is UE 4.8 which was released on June 10, 2015. It is written in C++, C#, GLSL, Cgo, HLSL and UnrealScript is removed now.

The development of this engine was started in 2003 and this news was revealed by the vice-president of Epic Games, 'Mark Rein' on August 17, 2005. The development of this engine was done by the team of 'Tim Sweeney' who is the  founder and technical director of Epic Games. Before launching this engine, in February 2012 Mark Rein said "people are going to be shocked later this year when they see Unreal Engine 4". This little speech made everyone curious about this engine.

unreal engine 4 reviewAs the Epic Games says that this engine is for everyone, that's why it is compatible with mostly platforms that are :-
1. Microsoft Windows
2. Linux
3. OS X
4. Xbox One
5. PlayStation 4
6. iOS
7. Android
8. Oculus
9. Rift
10. Ouya
11. HTC Vive

The engine is fully changed and now it comes with many different features such as Real-time Global Illumination, New Developer Tools, GPU Particles, The Engine Outlook and many more.
In the real-time global illumination, everything seems to be real because of the new lightning model. Like, if you design a room with red carpet, white walls and the sunlight streaming on it from a window then the Global Illumination (GI) makes the light falls from one surface to another due to which walls looks real and also red carpet will glow. Many Games have tried their best to make this effect in the past but mostly did it by baking a static image of the lighting of the scene onto the surfaces, but this also leads to a completely static environment which again makes the game looks unreal. But the fact that the Unreal Engine 4 is different from all because it does all this in real-time is a game changes.

Now, in Unreal Engine 4 you will get new and flexible developer tools which enhances the 3D graphical features and makes the environment realistic. The developers can easily preview their games at any instant with the full graphic quality and also can change or debug the code and can pause everything . In addition to the developer tools there is a majestic and upgraded tool i.e., Kismet visual scripting tool which provides a feature to non-programmers to create a wide variety of behaviours in a game such as colourful effects, sound effects, etc. So you can create complete games without using a single line of code . For this, 'Mark Rein' said What the new Kismet means for gamers is the artist's vision flows unfiltered to them, because now the artist can do exactly what they want" .

THE VERDICT :

The UE 4 has superb graphic quality and its global illumination is awesome. The UE 4 mainly targets the eighth generation of consoles, PCs and Tegra K1-based devices running Android. And due to its Kismet visual tool, everyone can make its dream game without using the code, the only need is the IDEA of game. So don't waste your time in thinking and download this or take monthly subscription for your compatible platform soon and start making games of your choice.
